BREAKING-Jost Capito Leaves Williams Racing

In a shock announcement, Jost Capito has stepped down from being Williams CEO and Team Principal

It has just been released that Jost Capito has made the decision to leave Williams as its CEO and Team Principal. He joined the team as its new CEO in December 2020 and became the team principal in June 2021. In his final statement he said:

‘It has been a huge privilege to lead Williams Racing for the last two seasons and to lay the foundations for the turnaround of this great team. I look forward to watching the team as it continues on its path to future success’

In his short period of time as Team principal, he saw Williams get its first podium since 2017 as George Russell achieved a second-place result at the 2021 Belgium Grand Prix and come from their awful 2020 campaign to finish 8th in the constructors championship. However, a disappointing 2022 campaign left them a lowly 10th and last in the championship with just 8 points to their name.

This now makes 2 teams in the Formula 1 paddock without a team principal, after Mattia Binotto left Ferrari a couple of weeks ago.

Technical Director Francois-Xavier Demaison departs

Along with Jost’s departure, Williams’ technical director Demaison leaves the Grove-based team after joining in 2021 from being at Volkswagen Motorsports since 2011. This is a huge shake up for Williams as they head into 2023 after a poor 2022 season and now left with 2 major team roles empty.

Replacement are yet to be found but this is shocking news considering how new both members were to the team. What is certain is that Williams are looking to come back into the midfield battle in 2023 and score consistent points with new driver Logan Sargeant and Alex Albon, who impressed in the 2022 season after coming back to the sport having been dropped by Red Bull in 2020.
